1.  Go to http://mrsdsmith.tripod.com. Click Lit 9.  Under Romeo and Juliet resources, click “No Fear Shakespeare:  Romeo and Juliet.” (Read all of Act II.  Try comparing the original text to the modern while you are reading.  Complete these questions.

Scene One Dramatic Irony: Romeo is as passionately in love as Mercutio teases him for being, but in a totally different way and with a totally different woman.  Mercutio isn’t aware of this.

Scene ThreeThis scene opens with Friar Laurence collecting herbs. He is discussing the properties of the herbs and the purposes for which they may be used. This demonstrates Friar Laurence’s knowledge of herbs and foreshadows that this knowledge may serve some purpose in future events in the drama.
